A Chance Encounter

It all started at a wedding.  A big fat Indian wedding.  With tons of people, tons of fun and tons of love.  My big sister Neeta married an awesome guy (and my now Jiju) Minesh Lakhani.  When Minesh found out we lived in Mississauga, he told me about his cousin Bimal who lived there too. A coincendence for sure, but nothing I thought much about.  Over the course of the wedding week Bim and I met each other, spoke briefly and went about our ways, enjoying the wedding. By the reception, we got to know Minesh's family really well and I spoke to Bimal a little more. Turns out we have a lot in common. We love the same kind of music, enjoy the same kind of films and read the same sort of books. These were grounds for a great friendship at the very least. So, that's what we took away...a friendship.

As the months went on we got to know each other better...and the friendship grew.  We shared more music, more films, and more books. We shared our goals, our aspirations, things we wanted in the future. The more we got to know each other, the more we knew something was growing between us. Bimal visited California to find out if these feelings were true.  We talked on the phone, chatted and skyped but what would it be like having coffee together? Going for dinner?  Could this very good friend become something more?  He could..and he has. Despite my minor swear words and huge surprise when Bim proposed (check out the engagement video), this is it and there's no question in my mind that this friend has become a best friend and even more..the person I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. So, here we are at another big fat indian wedding, with all the people, all the fun and all the love...except this time, its ours :)
